Who’s Really Buying OEM Rims & Stock Wheels

There are a few stereotypes associated with people who buy aftermarket wheels for their cars. You might think first of rappers showing off custom rides in music videos or maybe street racers at import shows, but in reality, the people who replace their OEM rims are more varied than you might think.

Women

Most people assume that customizing your car is really a guy thing, and women are more interested in cupholder locations. We know better. While it’s true that some women couldn’t care less about their car’s appearance, others take pride in making their ride their own (just like plenty of men don’t care about the appearance!). For some women, finding that perfect set of AMG replica wheels for their Mercedes is akin to finding the Rosetta Stone. While some might say that women are turning to car customization like new accessories, we think it’s because the love of four-wheels knows no gender.

Baby Boomers

The idea that people who’ve just retired settle into Town Cars and drive them back and forth from the grocery store is totally old news. Today’s retirees might be buying the same brands (Cadillac, Lexus, etc.) but the cars they’re choosing couldn’t be further from the ones their parents’ drove. The CTS-V, for example, can hardly be compared to the Cadillacs of the 90s and early 2000s. And since baby boomers are the generation who practically defined the American love of the automobile, it only makes sense they’d be interested in customizing their new car. With their extra expendable income and spare time, retirees can get really into custom cars.

Used Car Buyers

People who buy used cars often have saved a bundle by skipping that new car smell, and that extra savings can mean a fresh set of wheels! Bargain-hunting car aficionados also know that replica rims can give them the look they’re after without breaking the bank.

The rappers and the street racers may still come to mind first when you think of people who buy new wheels, but upgrading your car’s look isn’t limited to those two groups. Anyone can take pride in their car’s look, no matter their interests!
